What's my time commitment?
- Four meetings held during the year in the Vancouver area, usually in September, December, February and April plus the AGM.
- If you volunteer for a committee there may be additional time required.
- At the annual conference there is an outgoing executive meeting and an incoming executive meeting.
What's my financial commitment?
- If you reside away from the Lower Mainland, the Association will reimburse you for your airfare or mileage (whichever is less) and one night's stay.
- Lunch is provided at the meeting.
- A budget is developed by the executive and reps, (usually at the first meeting), so you can have input if you're leading a committee like membership or newsletter.
- In the case of the Kootenays where there are West and East sharing the position, expenses would alternate from person to person but both are welcome at each meeting if they are covering their own expenses for every other one.
What happens at these meetings?
- Reports are given by the President, Treasurer, Area Reps, Membership, Newsletter, Deans & Directors liaison and School District Directors liaison. Area Reps are required to provide a written report on white paper (max. 2 pages) at the 2nd & 4th meetings and at the AGM. Verbal reports will be expected at the 1st & 3rd meetings. Sample questionnaires are available from the executive and other area reps to assist you with collecting data for your reports.
- If you are unable to attend then you should send an alternate who is prepared to present your report.
- Matters of concern for either or both ministries of education.
- C.E. concerns in the field.
- Networking.
What things are expected of me?
- Getting information from other C.E. people in your area.
- Bringing back concerns to area and encouraging membership.
- Encouraging seed money proposals from area colleagues.
- Participating in getting research from own institutions.
- Possible participation in advocacy at various levels.
- Participation during conference planning.
- Participation on a committee.
What are the norms?
- Participation.
