ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

- Welcome to the 39th AGM of BCACEA, members, new members (Malaspina College), guests, by President Audrey Nawrocky, 55 members in attendance.
Lona Semeniuk moved and Lorrie Forde seconded the motion that the Agenda, as presented, be adopted. All in favour. Carried.
- Lona Semeniuk moved and Jo-Anne Yacheson seconded the adoption of the AGM Minutes, of May 13, 2004. All in favour. Carried.
- Area reports, in writing, were distributed, and attached. Moved by Lona Semeniuk and seconded by Lorrie Forde to adopt the Treasurer’s Report as presented. All in favour. Carried. Membership Report presented by Steve Swenson, attached. We currently have 106 members.
- After some research, the site for our 40th BCACEA Conference will be the Granville Island Hotel.
- No correspondence received.
- Audrey Nawrocky distributed and commented on a ‘Continuing Education in British Columbia’s Colleges and Institutes: A Foundation for Lifelong Learning’, prepared by the Centre for Policy Studies in Education, U.B.C. for the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology, May 1992.
- Elections of the 2005/2006 Executive: Steve Swenson informed the membership that Kevin deBoice, President Elect will be returning to the K-12 system and will not be able to fulfill his position. Therefore, a president elect is needed. Debbie Stava, (Northwest Area Rep) moved to another position and is no longer on the executive. Area Reps are needed for the following: Mainland College, North Central and Northwest.
At 1:30 pm Brenda Crocker moved and Lona Semeniuk seconded to adjourn the meeting.

Negotiating to Get More & Give More Julia King Tamang
Negotiation is successful when you get what you
need, efficiently, while still protecting the long-term
relationships that are the bricks and mortar of your
organization.
Learn a method for organizing a successful
negotiation from start to finish. Discover the tricks
of managing deal making on the fly, including the
navigation of sticky situations and non-cooperative
partners. Leverage opportunities and prevent costly mistakes and
never be at a disadvantage in negotiations again. Take away planning
tools, methods and tactics to bring sure success. Learn how to use
each situation as a way to improve your credibility, increase your
power base and gather chips for future deal making.

Julia King Tamang is a LERN* senior consultant. She has conducted
hundreds of negotiations for educational institutions and their clients,
specializing in collaborative dealmaking with an eye to profit from
long-term business relationships. She is a preferred trainer for the
senior negotiating teams for global purchasing at Xerox.

Cracking Through To Creativity Maggi Feehan
Here’s your opportunity to learn a variety of
creativity tools to enhance problem solving,
goal setting, and visionary thinking in both
business and personal contexts. Using
experiential exercises, you will learn how to
think more creatively and freely as an individual
as well as a team member. You will receive a
handout package detailing the tools learned in
class, as well as a reference list for other creativity sources. This
workshop promises to be stimulating, challenging, and ever so
rewarding.
Margaret Feehan is a Counselor, Writer, and Teacher. She holds a
master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of
Victoria and currently works with individuals, teams and organizations.
By bridging the skills of counseling, facilitation, and coaching, she
brings creativity and passion to the work of personal and systemic
change initiatives. Maggi has been teaching in the CACE program at
University of Victoria for many years.

Working Effectively with Aboriginal People Bob Joseph
This workshop is designed to help individuals and
organizations to work even more effectively with
Aboriginal People.. It includes a cultural sharing
event (singing and dancing in a traditional venue)
that has been seen by few non-aboriginal people.
Bob Joseph, the founder of Indigenous
Corporate Training, has provided strategic
council and training on Indigenous or Aboriginal
Relations since 1994. His career began in the Aboriginal Relations
Department of BC Hydro where he worked in a variety of areas
including communications, negotiations, consultation, business
development and training. Bob is also an associate professor at Royal
Roads University in the Indigenous Corporate Relations program. He
has a background in Business Administration and International Trade,
and is a certified Master Trainer who in May of 2001 was profiled in
an annual feature called, “Training: the New Guard 2001” by the
American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) in their
prestigious Magazine.

The ‘Fish’ Philosophy of Leadership Graham Dickson
Graham will engage audience members in
a session entitled, The ‘Fish’ Philosophy of
Leadership, a presentation utilizing a
combination of video, stories, and
interactive exercises that demonstrates
how a vision that is supported by action
can benefit an organization. Dr. Dickson will speak about how worldrenowned
Pike’s Fish Market in Seattle was able to operationalize its
corporate vision, and become world-famous for its modeling of key
leadership concepts.
Dr. Dickson is Executive Director of Leadership Development at Royal
Roads University. Graham was a teacher and educational
administrator in the K—12 system in BC. He is also a former Director
of the Evaluation and Research branch of British Columbia’s Ministry
of Education, prior to moving to Royal Roads University, where he
helped establish the Master of Arts in Leadership and Training
graduate degree program. Dr. Dickson is currently also a member of
the Board of Directors for the Victoria Hospital Foundation, and Chair
of the Board of Directors for the BC Leadership and Management
Institute, a consortium of the University of Victoria, Camosun College,
and Royal Roads University.
