The Force of Change
"Bysiness (sic) is a Neurotic Invention of the Modern Age", (Thomas More).
The force of change seem at times to create confusion and distress within our organizations and workplaces. This presentation will explore the skills and knowledge we need to navigate the whitewater of change. We will strive for both deep understanding and practical strategies for aligning our efforts towards common purpose. Along the way, we'll touch on teamwork, leadership, coherence, will, and trust as important elements in the change journey. The workshop will also provide a systematic approach to building capacity through JED - job embedded development, and challenge you to take personal action in the service of learning.

- Writing Effective Press Releases - Allan Coyle
Writing effective press releases isn't always a matter of just getting to the 'who, what, when and where' of the matter - giving the story to the press in the right way can make the difference between wasted effort and being celebrated as a media-savvy hero. Allan Coyle has worked both sides of the street as a public and media relations professional and as an editor, columnist and journalist. He will offer some tips and insights on how to get your story out - the way you want it told.
Allan Coyle is a communications and media relations professional with more than 20 years experience in media, public relations, and marketing. His experience spans public and private sector work and he's had the distinct pleasure of being on both sides of the news equation - acting as spokesperson for various organizations and functioning as journalist trying to pry beneath the 'official story.' In his current guise as OUC's Communications Officer, he is responsible for public, government and media relations for one of Canada's most dynamic institutions of higher learning. Away from work, he's an ardent sailor, skier, and mountain-biker.
- Avoiding "PowerPointless" Presentations - Valerie Ahtila
Effective layout and design strategies for PowerPoint
The program is called "PowerPoint" for a reason. It enables you to prepare "powerful" presentations, whether you utilize it's most basic or most advanced features. Yet most of us get caught in the "glitch" of PowerPoint without applying some basic principles of design. Discover a few of the fundamental concepts and see how standard or custom design templates, apparent motion and simplicity can enhance your presentation for your viewers. Remember: You are the messenger; PowerPoint is a tool. Use it effectively to compliment your presentation and emphasize your message. Note: This is not a skill development workshop but rather an informational presentation.
